On the 13th and 14th March 2026, the Municipality of Fundão in Portugal hosted the first transnational Kick-Off Meeting of the “Olympics of Sustainability” (OofS) project, funded by the Erasmus+ Sport programme. The full-day meeting brought together international partners to formally launch the initiative and align on its strategic direction.
During the morning session, partners reviewed the project rationale, key deliverables, and progress already achieved in initial tasks, including research activities. A central working session addressed the findings of the T2.1 research phase and led to the co-creation of interview guidelines and survey tools (T2.2), aimed at gathering stakeholder input across four countries.
In the afternoon, participants engaged in a “World Café” discussion format, focusing on two strategic areas: the design of sustainable and inclusive sports competitions, and the development of a long-term communication and stakeholder engagement strategy. Governance structures, communication tools, and decision-making processes were also defined.
The first day of the meeting concluded with an action plan and risk assessment for upcoming deliverables, including the development of a Green Playbook, the launch of the project’s digital presence, and preparation for the next transnational meeting in Helsinki. The second day was dedicated to project tasks but also to visit some local sport facilities.
The Olympics of Sustainability project aims to integrate sustainability principles into sport activities, promoting inclusion, environmental awareness, and long-term community impact through innovative event formats in Portugal, Slovenia, Spain and Finland.
